Stop CPH: asking for safer, accountable housing policy

Residents called for housing plans with meaningful consultation, clear oversight and safeguards for both future residents and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The Stop CPH campaign began when Richmond residents learned of plans for permanent community housing and raised questions about safety, transparency and accountability. Their concern was not opposition to housing itself, but whether the proposed model had adequate planning and oversight.

Residents organized community meetings, spoke with elected officials and shared information with neighbours. As participation grew, the campaign consistently called for housing that supports residents while also protecting the surrounding community.

Petitions, public forums and collective advocacy asked decision-makers to consider better alternatives and to explain project details before committing to plans with lasting local effects.

The campaign helped establish a stronger expectation that future housing proposals include public information sessions and meaningful consultation, giving residents a clearer role in decisions that shape their neighbourhoods.
